Community FSW

Community forensic social work is a specialized area of practice that focuses on individuals impacted by the justice system who are living in the community, including people on probation or parole, those released on good behavior, and individuals recently released from incarceration. Social workers may work within or alongside courts, probation and parole systems, behavioral health agencies, and community-based programs to coordinate services and advocate for sustainable, responsive support.

Community forensic social work is multifaceted and broad in scope. Services may include direct work with justice agencies and the courts, community-based mental health settings, reentry programs, housing services, and other supportive systems. Anywhere there is a person impacted by the justice system living in the community is an opportunity to apply and strengthen community forensic social work skills.

This practice emphasizes the connection between individual recovery and community wellness. Through collaboration, creativity, and care, community forensic social work recognizes personal strengths and capacity for growth while centering dignity, healing, and connection as essential to reintegration.
